Overview: Sika first formed when Nate McLain and Sergei Zharinov (affectionately known to the band as 'Sika'), who were both guitarists, started playing together in the summer of 2002. Nate had known Sergei's older brother Aleksey through playing tennis at the University of Minnesota, for which Aleksey originally came to the United States from his native Russia. Sergei came to the U.S. following his brother on a temporary Visa, and was put up by Nate's mother. Aleksey, who was also a guitar player, joined Nate and Sergei to play bass shortly afterward. A couple of months later, Dave Crevier, who knew Nate through his sister, joined as drummer. Sometime in the fall of 2002, Torgo met Sergei through his mother (who was friends with Nate's mother), and Sergei invited him to come and try singing for the band.
At this point in the history of Sika, all members except Dave were Metallica fans; Nate, Aleksey, and Sergei's intention at the time was to be a Metallica cover band. Torgo came and tried singing some Metallica
