Overview: Like their hometown of Houston,TX, Runaway Sun has a no-zoning policy when it comes to their music, effortlessly welding elements of blues, rock, pop and modern alternative into a cohesive, arresting sound. Lead singer Andrew Karnavas’ almost beat poet cadence forges the path for Matthew Buehrer’s bluesy bass, Marshall West’s jazz-influenced drums and Daniel de Luna’s agile, acrobatic guitar lines. Formed in 2008 the band has released three studio albums and become a fixture in the Gulf Coast touring circuit, opening for such acts as Heartless Bastards and Back Door Slam . In 2009, Runaway Sun was invited to perform at SXSW Interactive Keynote Speaker Guy Kawasaki’s party alongside Brooklyn piano star Diane Birch. When the City of Houston threw its inaugural New Year’s Eve celebration in 2011, Runaway Sun was the only local band invited to perform. PBS invited Andrew Karnavas to open for Trombone Shorty and MyNameIsJohnMichael at SXSW 2011.
