Gayle Skidmore

Overview: My name is Gayle Skidmore and I have written over 1700 songs since I was four years old. I have a propensity for attracting adventure and drama, and have a knack for storytelling. I enjoy writing music that can be enjoyed on multiple levels, and believe that I accomplish this with a simplicity that is deceivingly intricate and a passion for music that is palpable. I bake cookies for my fans, created an origami curtain and a giant octopus for my latest CD release party, and had a masquerade party for my previous album release. My latest album, "Make Believe," comes in a coloring book that I illustrated. I have been managing myself for over ten years and was nominated for 2 Grammy's in '09. I classify my music as "indie folk pop." Heavily influenced by my classical piano training, I enjoy incorporating classical elements in many of my songs, along with composing parts for my cellist and violinist. My songs are catchy and memorable without sacrificing depth or personal connection.

  BIOGRAPHY
San Diego-based indie folk pop artist Gayle Skidmore is delighted to announce the release of her first full-length album/coloring book, Make Believe, on Raincoat Records. Make Believe showcases Gayle’s ingenuity and versatility as an artist with its intriguing range of styles, intricate melodies and depth of emotion and has been nominated for “Best Pop Album” in the 2011 San Diego Music Awards.

Truly prolific, Gayle Skidmore has released 8 independent albums/singles since 2002. Since then her songs have been garnering awards, and in 2008 her Cowley Road E.P. was on the ballot for the ’09 Grammy’s for “Best Pop Album,” and “Best Pop Vocal Performance.” In July 2009 she was featured in Germany’s prominent Seuddeutsche Zeitung, and has since won several song competitions in the Netherlands. She was nominated for “Best Pop Album” in the 2009 San Diego Music Awards and “Best Americana” in the 2010 SDMAs. Gayle has been performing and touring in the US, UK and Europe as a solo artist and with a band for over 10 years.

A classical pianist since the age of four, Gayle began her love affair with music at an early age. She began writing her own songs at the age of eight under the influence of Chopin, The Beatles, Bach and Led Zeppelin. From deep in the core of her being flows an abundance of lyrics and melodies that she has crafted into over 1700 songs and counting. With a propensity for attracting adventure, Gayle finds constant inspiration in the whirlwind of life. When she isn’t playing the piano, Gayle accompanies herself on the dulcimer, guitar and banjo. She played 14 instruments on Make Believe including the folk harp and the marimba, and composed all of the parts for her cellist and violinist. She enjoys baking cookies for her fans and creating sets for the stages she performs upon. Listen now on Pandora.com!
