Overview: Skates is Melissa Dungan and she lives in Los Angeles. Influenced by pop, classics, gothic rap & literature Skates' songs are mostly lyrically focused flows over esoteric dance beats. Having had a theatrical upbringing as an actress & writer, she feels drama is a dish best served on a spontaneous platter of songs! She started making music in San Francisco by way of a talking Photograph of John Lennon from her mother’s White Album, which at the time was believed to possess supernatural powers. This songstress has released two records (Lord of the Rinks 2004 & Amethyst 2009), and played shows in venues all over Los Angeles, the CMJ Music Festival and the Key Club supporting Nina Hagen. In the Summer of 2007, due to some personal issues effecting her health, the singer moved to a small town in Maine and then returned to Los Angeles in Winter of 2009.
