Overview: Jalayna Johnson was born & raised in Staten Island, NY. She began writing poetry in the 3rd grade, and has used it to express herself from then on. She competed in spoken word poetry slams in high school and was a part of the 1st Annual New York Knicks Poetry Slam Team, a finalist for the 2005 McDonald's Gospelfest, and a finalist for Urban Word competitions. She attended Northwestern University in 2006 and took a break from performing, focusing on writing. Now she is back at it, incorporating spoken word, rap, and music to express herself.
