Overview: Sonia is a 5-piece band made up of RIT students. They started out in May 2010 as a studio project between founding members Ben Scott (guitar, vocals) and Mike Soltiz (guitar, vocals). As a duo, they wrote and recorded Close My Eyes, a five song EP combining elements of Indie Rock, Alternative Rock, and Folk. After receiving a great response to the EP from friends and family, the band decided to expand in the interest of performing live. In August 2010, Chris Payne (bass) and Phil Frandina (drums) were added to the lineup and the band played their first show at the Phelps Sauerkraut Festival. For the remainder of the year, Sonia played at small coffee shops and bars around the Rochester and Buffalo areas while writing and recording more songs. In January 2011, Jen Green (keys) was added to the lineup to bring a fuller sound to their live show. The band is currently working on finishing up a full length album and will be headlining RIT's Brickstock event this Spring.
