Music was always a first language to me. I learned to read music before I learned how to read words, and even when I was reading music, I was speaking something much more profound: I was speaking my heart. I always said I loved piano because I could communicate in a language that runs much deeper than words. It was a language that wasn’t learned, but developed. I’m lucky that I discovered that voice early on, but it came so naturally to me, as if it was an organic part of who I was meant to be. Growing up I worked passionately to develop that language, desperate to hear my heart speak. Songwriting emerged early when I was a young pianist, but was really cultivated in me when I started guitar a year and a half before high school. Guitar and composition lessons only opened more doors for my voice. The older I got, the more I had to say, and the more ways I found to say it.
I had more to say after my 8th grade year, when I experienced hardship that made a 13 year old feel suddenly 30. It was an unbelievably difficult year that led me to an encounter with God. The deeper the pain and darkness in my life, the brighter the light God brought into my life shone out of me. And as I grew into Him, He grew deeply into me, allowing me to cultivate my passion for music in a way that led me and others closer to Him. I began to get involved in my church worship band where I got endless chances to perform and find affirmation in that community that fostered my growth as a performer and a person. In college, I grew in sometimes comfortable and other times uncomfortable and painful ways: spiritually, physically, mentally, socially, intellectually…and it led me to a place where I have an unquenchable passion to share my music. More than that, it gave me something to say, and a purpose. Through several years of refining and challenging experiences, I have found an authenticity within myself—an honesty that’s unashamed to admit brokenness, and a humility that is still yearning to understand grace. As a natural result of what I experienced, my music reached a new level of profundity and my voice became undeniably clearer. My mission is to use my voice to speak truth from my heart that I may ignite in others the light I’ve found, and in some way, impact those who experience my music and listen for the language of my heart in what I’ve experienced.
If you like what you hear, I ask for your support in helping me to move forward so that my voice can reach the hearts of those who need to hear it.
In gratitude, humility, and purpose, may my voice touch you as you experience my music.
