Overview: Sketchnote hails from Rockland County, New York...Igor and Travis from New City, Cory from Spring Valley, and Sam from Suffern. The story began in mid-2008 at a county high school jazz festival at Ramapo High School, where Cory met the, at the time, intoxicated guitarist Sam and convinced him to come jam with his band, Sketchnote. Sam was skeptical about joining a collective that was somewhat based in hip-hop, but after a few weeks in Travis' garage, and his countless blunts later, all four members began to work on a level that was not solely hip-hop or alternative rock, but a kind of organic mix of everything they grew up hearing, from Nas to MuteMath to Metric to Brubeck. Now, they are unsigned but working, not well known but writing, recording, and playing, and 2009 will see an EP release entitled "Tryst" and no complacency. Sketchnote doesn't like to be defined, but a statement like that is cliche... Maybe there is something to be said for not creating something simply to be different and to hear the word
